Michelle Montes is the Chesapeake Assurance Leader with 30 years of experience in public accounting and, as an Assurance partner, serves a variety of industries, currently focusing on consumer products, real estate, hospitality and construction. She has extensive experience serving both public and private companies and frequently advises boards and management on a variety of complex business, accounting and reporting matters, including SEC matters, mergers, acquisitions and divestitures, valuation matters, capital transactions, emerging accounting standards and internal control matters, including Sarbanes-Oxley.
Michelle’s client experience ranges from serving midsize companies to global multibillion-dollar companies. Michelle serves as the U.S. assurance partner on Nestlé, a global multibillion-dollar company and the world’s largest food and beverage company. Michelle also serves McCormick & Company and serves/has served public and private real estate and hospitality clients, including AvalonBay Communities, Keller Group plc, Park Hotels & Resorts, Arbor Realty Trust, Elme Communities, DuPont Fabros Technology, Inc., Liberty Property Trust, Omega Healthcare Investors, and Federal Capital Partners. Her prior experience includes serving one of EY’s largest global private equity clients, The Carlyle Group. Through her experiences, she has worked with diverse teams and coordinated cross-functional and international engagement teams, including multiple service lines within EY (audit, tax, IT advisory, valuation, transaction real estate). Michelle is connected with the EY Real Estate and Hospitality and Consumer Products global networks. She was previously the East Assurance Leader for Real Estate, Hospitality and Construction.
Michelle is a CPA and a member of the AICPA. Michelle earned a B.S. in Accounting from George Mason University. Michelle serves as a member of the Accounting Advisory Council for the Costello College of Business at George Mason University and as the partner sponsor of the EY Greater Washington Alumni Relations
