Rachael Coad grew up dancing in Northern Virginia and went on to train at the prestigious Virginia School of the Arts under Petrus Bosman of The Royal Ballet during her high school years. She received her BFA in Ballet and Modern Dance with Honors from Texas Christian University. Her summer studies included Ballet Austin, Ballet Magnificat!, Alonzo King LINES Ballet, Ad Deum Dance Company, and Dallas Black Dance Theatre. She danced professionally throughout the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex with Epiphany DanceArts, wild goose chase dance, and Zion Dance Project. Her extensive teaching experience includes many studios and school programs, most notably the Texas Ballet Theater, where she taught in public schools throughout DFW through their CityDance program, as well as several levels in the Lower School and Adult Program. In 2018 she was thrilled to move back home to the East Coast and now lives in NE DC with her husband and two young daughters. She currently dances with project-based companies in the DMV, including UpRooted Dance, Aru Dell’arte and The Lion’s Den. She has performed at The Kennedy Center and participated in Choreographic Residency Programs at the new REACH space. She teaches at Joy of Motion Dance Center and serves as the Dance Chair at The Capitol Hill Arts Workshop. She has been a part of the Dance DC teaching team in the public schools and helping with the Dance For All events here at The Washington Ballet since 2019 and is truly so excited to step into the role of “Community Engagement Associate” under DeMoya Watson Brown.
