Every year, The Washington Ballet and The Washington School of Ballet invite students from around the world to audition for our Summer Intensive. Students spend five works learning from our internationally recognized faculty, artistic leadership and acclaimed guest artists. After their summer, many students decide to audition for or are invited to join for the school year to continue their dance education, some even being accepted into our competitive Trainee Program.

Meet Teja Pollard, one of our 2024 Summer Intensive Students and new Trainee 2 for the 2024.25 Season. Keep reading for more on Teja’s journey to The Washington School of Ballet.

What did you get out of the summer intensive?

TWSB Summer Intensive helped me improve my technique and be a better dancer.  All of my teachers were very supportive and pushed me to be my best every day. I am so grateful to have learned from such esteemed teachers and to have met talented dancers and friends this summer at TWSB!

What influenced your decision to stay?

I decided to stay because the training I received in those 5 weeks helped me to significantly improve technically and artistically. All of the teachers are amazing and so supportive. I also really like how there will be many performance opportunities for the trainees so I am really looking forward to the upcoming season at The Washington Ballet.

What about TWSB made you feel like it was a good fit for you?

TWSB is a good fit for me because it pushes me to be the best I can be and work hard every day, while also having fun. It opened me up to new experiences and opportunities. I enjoyed all of my classes and loved all of my teachers.
