The Washington School of Ballet is excited to invite you to an in class showing of composition work by our Trainee Students.
The Trainee 1 & 2 Choreographic Showcase is an annual performance that highlights The Washington School of Ballet’s commitment to cultivating choreographic talent within its Professional Division. Now in its ninth year with faculty member Mimmo Miccolis, the program provides students with practical experience in creating original work—from concept and structure to rehearsal and performance.
Throughout the process, students explore the fundamentals of dance composition while developing their own artistic voices, often engaging with themes relevant to their lived experience. The program encourages thoughtful risk-taking and supports students in using movement as a form of personal and cultural expression.
Many alumni have gone on to create original work for schools and professional companies, citing this experience as an important step in their artistic development. The showcase offers a unique opportunity for audiences to witness the creative growth of emerging choreographers at the start of their careers.
