Sarah Steele is in her fifth season with The Washington Ballet. Born in New York, NY, Steele trained at Nunnbetter Dance Theater in Bergenfield, NJ and with Valentina Kozlova in New York City. She is the recipient of a gold medal from Tanzolymp IBC, a silver medal from Boston IBC, and has participated in gala performances at Varna IBC and the International Baltic Ballet Festival in Riga. Steele previously danced with Tulsa Ballet II, and is currently on leave from Harvard College. With TWB, Steele has originated the roles of The Astronaut in Ethan Stiefel’s Frontier, and the Leader in Gemma Bond’s Myriad. Steele danced The Lilac Fairy and The Fairy of Valor in Julie Kent’s staging of The Sleeping Beauty, Dew Drop in Septime Webre’s The Nutcracker, and various roles in Justin Peck’s In Creases, Trey McIntyre’s Teeming Waltzes, Paul Taylor’s Company B, Mark Morris’ Drink To Me Only With Thine Eyes, Merce Cunningham’s Duets, and Ethan Stiefel’s Wood Work. Steele has also enjoyed corps de ballet roles in George Balanchine’s Serenade, Allegro Brillante, and Theme and Variations, Julie Kent’s staging of Giselle, Ashton’s Midsummer Night’s Dream, Fokine’s Les Sylphides, and Cranko’s Romeo and Juliet.
