Joan began taking ballet as a child, and pursued it throughout her college life. She graduated from UCLA Law School and worked as a litigator at two large law firms in DC and then took a position as a lawyer for the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
She is now a senior supervising attorney in the Adjudications Group of the SEC General Counsel’s Office. The Group’s work involves review of regulated company management actions, including accounting and auditing. Her job includes coordination with other SEC departments and the Commissioners to achieve consensus views.
She has maintained her interest in the dance community. She served on the Board of Directors of Bowen McCauley Dance during its formative years, helping that company grow into an established member of the dance scene in the Washington area. She has been a member of the Board of Directors of Maryland Youth Ballet for several years.
