Nutcracker auditions are held at the NW Campus at 3515 Wisconsin Ave, NW on Sunday, October 4. Please contact School Manager, Donna Glover for more information.
Children chosen to participate are required to attend all their assigned rehearsals. The Nutcracker is a large production and the children have quite a lot to learn. Full support and cooperation from both the children and the parents are critical to the success of this wildly popular Holiday DC tradition.
At all rehearsals, children are expected to pay attention and be respectful. Dress rehearsals are in performance order and students should arrive one hour in advance.
Always check this website for updates and changes in the schedule. This is VERY important. If there are too many missed rehearsals, your child could lose her/his part.
Your child will not be assigned to all performances but must be available and ready to step in for their alternate.
Keep weekends free.
Children in Act I are to be picked up at the end of Act I (approx. 50 minutes after show time). Act II are picked up at the end except for the Mushrooms, Cherry Blossoms, Butterflies and Bees who may be picked up one hour and 15 minutes into the show (right after they perform).
Children performing in both a matinee and evening show on the same day are not to be left at the theatre between shows unattended. Please make appropriate arrangements.
In an emergency, If your child absolutely cannot make a performance, call their alternates first, then call Donna Glover at 301-653-5502. If it is past call time at the theatre phone the Green Room number (see Important Numbers and add all in your phone).
All children have a one hour call before each show. We will expect each child to sign in no later than 10 minutes after the call time. Please call if you are running late so that we know where you are. We do not have time to track missing performers after the show has begun so we must have everyone signed in early to give us time to deal with emergencies (and there is always something!).
Please go to Important Phone Numbers and enter those numbers in your phone.
Drop off and pick up at THEARC is in the main lobby at the staircase.
Drop off and pick up at The Warner is at 13th and E Streets, with the entrance on the corner. You are welcome to park and walk your child inside, down the hall and up the red carpeted stairs to the "curved door" drop off. This is where the children and volunteers will enter. Others are not allowed beyond this point and it is the job of the building guard and our parent volunteer guard to check the list and only allow those listed into the backstage area. This will also be your pick up pointe. The parent volunteer assigned to your child's group will be dismissing students to the guards and overseeing pick up.
If you are watching the entire performance and do not have a ticket for your child to join you at intermission we will keep your child backstage with the second act mothers. Please pack food and drink if your child is staying for the entire show and provide an activity.
If you plan to have your first act child join you at intermission you must have a ticket for him/her and meet him/her at the curved door as there is a theatre entrance adjacent to the drop off/pick up door. Your child must bring all personal items from backstage at this time. Please be sure that your child knows your plans, whether for pick up at intermission or for staying backstage for the remainder of the performance.
