The Washington Ballet@THEARC's Summer Dance Intensive gives students from around the Washington area the opportunity to study with TWB@THEARC's top-notch facility. The Summer Intensive offers a four-week course of study for beginning, intermediate and advanced students.

Registration

We will accept a total of 75 students (25 per level 1, 2, and 3).

Space is limited and granted on a first-come, first-served basis.

Registration starts, Monday, March 1, 2008.

 Application Procedure:

  1. Turn in original completed Application Form, supplement forms, and $25.00 deposit to Donna Jackson, School Manager.
  2. If student(s) is currently enrolled in our program please check the status of your account to ensure accuracy
  3. Remainder of payments is due by April 7, May 5, and balance due June 2. If the balance is not paid by June 2, the student will be dropped from the program.
  4. Form of payments: check, cash, money order

Curriculum

The program of study for the intermediate and advanced dances includes daily ballet technique. Pointe classes are available daily for the advanced dancers during ballet class at the discretion of the teacher. Other classes include modern dance, hip hop, African and repertory. Students in all levels will perform at the end of the program on the last day of classes.

Levels are determined at the time of acceptance; students will, however, be reevaluated during the first few days of the program and adjustments will be made if necessary. Class Placement is at the discretion of the faculty.

Levels

 

Level 1 : ages 7, including ballet technique, and African dance. In addition to dance classes students will receive one hour of art, music, or drama, and academic enrichment each day. The academic class is designed to enhance their creative thinking, reading, and writing skills.

Level 2 : levels 1A ballet or approval by director includes ballet technique twice a day, hip hop, Modern, Pilates and stretch classes. In addition to dance classes students at this level will receive one or more hours of art, music and academic enrichment each day. This class is designed to enhance their creative thinking, reading and writing skills.

Level 3: levels 1B, 2A and Teen ballet or approval by director, includes intensive ballet technique, pre-pointe work, hip hop and modern dance. In addition to dance classes art and music classes will also be offered. The academic time will provide students who have finished their freshman year and above the opportunity to take an SAT preparation class. Students not in high school will focus on academic enrichment in the areas of creative writing and expression.

Program Costs

Costs for the Institute are $100, $200, $300 or $400 per child. The cost of the Summer Dance Institute is based on a sliding fee scale. All families must fill out an income assessment form when registering. Income verification is required; accepted forms or income verification include: two most recent pay stubs or federal income verification statement.

Tuition Assistance

The Washington Ballet@THEARC works on a sliding fee scale to ensure that our programs are accessible to all income levels. All families must fill out and income assessment form when registering. Dress Code

Ballet slippers, tights and a plain colored leotard are needed for ballet class. Jazz pants and a leotard are needed for hip hop. All clothing items can be purchased in our apparel store during regular business hours. Please see the administrative assistant, located at the front desk to place your order.

Performances

Students in all levels will perform at the end of the program on the last day of classes. Parents are invited to watch classes during the last week of the program. Parents and family of performing students will be invited to attend informal showings during the last day of classes to culminate the ending of the program.

Breakfast and lunch will be served to all students Monday – Friday at the offices of The Washington Ballet@THEARC.

Pick up Policy


Parents please make arrangements to pick up your children by 3:00PM. Only parents or designated adults are allowed to sign your children out each day. Please make sure you have listed persons authorized to pick up you children. A 15-minute grace period will be allowed. Parents will be charged $1.00 per minute past the grace period.
