The Washington Ballet @THEARC offers a Summer Dance Program, Summer Evening Program, and Summer Adult Open Classes.

The Washington Ballet @THEARC’s Summer Dance Program consists of four weeks of study.

A total of 75 students will be accepted to the daytime program (25 students per level). There are three levels: Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3. Students age 7 and up are eligible for the program.Students must either audition for our program or have completed level 1A.

Space is limited and registration is granted on a first-come, first-served basis.

How much is tuition?

Tuition is based on a sliding fee scale so the program is accessible to all income levels. Income verification is required during the registration phase. The cost for the Summer Dance Program is based on seven payment groups ranging from $100-$900 per child. Summer Evening classes range from $40 to $275 based on class level and financial aid amount. Payment plans are available. A $30 non-refundable fee is due at the time of registration. Full payment must be received by June 11, 2012.

Are meals included?

A complimentary breakfast will be served between 8:00AM and 8:30AM for those students in the Summer Day Program. A box lunch program may be purchased for $76. If you do not wish to purchase the lunch program, please pack a lunch for your child.

Will my child perform?

There will be a culminating event on the last day of the intensive; students of all levels will perform. Parents and guardians are invited to attend this showing. Evening Program students will have parent observation their last week of summer classes.

When do I pick up my child?

Please make arrangements to pick up your child by 3 PM each day. Only parents or designated adults are allowed to sign-out their children. A 15-minute grace period is allowed; parents will be charged $1 per minute past the grace period.

Is there an option for before and after care?

The Boys and Girls Club offers a limited number of slots for families interested in before and after care. If interested, contact The Boys and Girls Club at 202.610.9707. Children may be at the facility as early as 7AM for before care, and from 3-6PM for after care.

What is the uniform?

The dress code for the Summer Day Program is any solid colored leotard, pink convertible ballet tights, and pink leather ballet slippers. Students in the Summer Day Program will also need black jazz shoes. Students in the Summer Evening Program follow the same dress code as during the school year. Learn more here.

ABOUT THE SUMMER DANCE PROGRAM CURRICULUM

Level 1 (Ballet 1A, 1C or approval by director)

Students will participate in ballet, jazz, African dance, cultural dance, art, music and repertory.

Level 2 (Ballet 1B, Ballet 2 or approval by director)

Students will participate in ballet, stretch class, jazz, modern, African dance, music and repertory.

Level 3 (Ballet 3, Ballet 4/5 or approval by director)

Students will participate in ballet, pointe, stretch class, jazz, modern, music and choreography.

SUMMER EVENING PROGRAM

The Summer Evening Program offers ballet for children ages 4-8 and 11-18. We will have Creative Movement (4 year olds), Pre Ballet 1 (5 year olds), Pre Ballet 2 (6-8 year olds), Ballet 1C (7-11 year olds) and Beginner Teen Ballet classes all meeting twice per week. The curriculum and all other information follows that of our Fall/Spring school program.
