The Washington School of Ballet's Summer Intensive gives students from around the world the opportunity to study with the school's acclaimed faculty. The Summer Intensive offers a four-week course of study for the Lower Division and a five-week course for Upper Division.
During the Intensive, classes are conducted at the Washington School of Ballet’s NW location, Monday through Friday. As a result of this intensive training, students are able to progress rapidly and significantly increase their abilities in a relatively short time.
We provide a housing program for Summer Intensive students at the George Washington University dorms in historic Georgetown. It is not required that students live at the dorm, although it is highly recommended due to the rich experience of cultural excursions, outings, and the companionship of their peers.
As a part of the summer intensive, student in the Upper Division will get the opportunity to learn repertoire and be a part of a culminating performance in the fifth week, which will highlight each level’s accomplishments.
Students are accepted into The Washington School of Ballet’s Summer Intensive by audition only. Audition classes will take place in various cities. These auditions are meant for students ages 13-22. Auditions for The Lower division can be done at the Washington, DC location or by DVD.
Students may audition by either attending an audition class or submitting a video audition. Students attending an audition class need to bring a headshot and full body shot (in any ballet position) to their audition. There is a $25 fee for the audition class.
DVD auditions should be no longer than 10 minutes and must include an introduction with name, age, years of study and places of study. Students must submit an audition form, check for $25 made out to The Washington Ballet, photograph and one letter of recommendation from your teacher in the DVD package. The DVD should have center work including adagio, pirouettes en dehors and en dedans, petit allegro, grand allegro and pointe work for the girls.
