EXCEL!
Classical pre-ballet technique is available to all talented and interested DanceDC students through a unique scholarship program called EXCEL! Nine boys and nine girls from the DanceDC schools are selected annually to receive on-site professional ballet technique training for an hour once a week at The Washington School of Ballet. Students receive leotards, tights, t-shirts and free transportation, and the curriculum follows the same standards used for all pre-ballet classes at the School.

Scholarships
The Washington Ballet provides over $140,000 annually in merit-based scholarships and need-based financial assistance to talented and deserving students of The Washington School of Ballet. This program is vital for the students at the School who would not be able to pursue their dance training without financial support.

inthewings
Through Septime Webre's informal, post-performance chats, inthewings educates audience members and gives them a deeper look into the performances. The Washington Ballet's artistic director, choreographers, guest artists and dancers provide open discussions after each Washington Ballet performance to examine the technique and aesthetic of the performance pieces viewed.

Art Contests and Teacher Workshops
When public school classrooms attend The Nutcracker and other family ballet performances, The Washington Ballet offers workshops in collaboration with the Center for Artistry in Teaching (CAT) to assist teachers in developing creative lesson plans that they will be able to integrate into their academic curriculum. Teachers receive SEAT points for participation, and The Ballet also gives out study guides with information, exercises, and variety of creative ideas and tools. To further enrich the students experience with our Family programs, The Ballet also holds annual art contests for the students in conjunction with these special student performances. The results of these contests are displayed in The Washington Ballet's Fannie Mae Gallery and the process can foster a greater understanding of dance through the visual arts.
