The Washington Ballet provides internship opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students interested in arts administration. Our unpaid internships are offered throughout the calendar year and allow students to receive academic credit during their tenure at The Washington Ballet. ExxonMobile Community Summer Jobs Program:
Marketing and PR Intern
Position Summary: Through the ExxonMobile Community Summer Jobs Program, in partnership with Volunteer Fairfax, The Washington Ballet is offering a summer 2008 internship in the Marketing and Public Relations (PR) branch of its External Affairs Department. This department helps to promote the activities of The Washington Ballet through various media outlets, and interns are exposed to the process of strategizing and implementing the Ballet’s marketing and PR needs.
Position Responsibilities: The accepted intern will be responsible for researching artists and performances, assisting with planning promotional events and marketing campaigns, updating TWB's media list, writing and editing press releases, preparing media kits, assisting with the development of PR strategies, and completing other administrative duties as needed.
Position Requirements: Applicants must be college students who are planning to return to college as full-time (minimum of 12 credit hours) undergraduates in the fall of 2008. Graduate students are not eligable. The accepted Intern must complete an 8-week, 35-hours per week, internship from approximately June 1 to July 31. The accepted intern must also attend three mandatory meetings hosted by Exxon Mobil and its partner, Volunteer Fairfax in June 2008.
Preferred Skills: Highly competative applicants will have excellent verbal and written communication skills, a strong interest in the performing arts, a basic knowledge of marketing and PR, and experience using the Microsoft Office Suite.
Compensation: The accepted applicant will receive a stipend of $2500.

Development Intern
Intern will provide support to the Development and External Affairs department. This department is responsible for maintaining and raising funds to support the operation of The Washington Ballet; identifying new sources of funding; engaging in campaigns or events; developing materials for external use; and increasing the overall visibility of the Ballet. Intern responsibilities include: researching prospective funders including corporate and foundation organizations, assist with direct mail operations, help prepare grant proposals and applications, database management, special projects and assist with other administrative duties when needed.

External Affairs Intern
To provide support to the External Affairs Department in the following areas: direct mail operations, ticketing and customer service; database management; archive press kits; special projects; special events; donor services; proposal writing; prospect research; gift tracking.

Finance & Data Services Intern
The Finance Department is responsible for the management and supervision of the organization’s financial activity. As part of the Finance Department, data services assists in the planning and implementing of new technologies, as well as maintaining and repairing the organization’s systems and networks. Intern responsibilities include: updating and integrating software, system maintenance, research new technologies, coordinate and organize electronic files, assist with troubleshooting at individual workstations, and assist with other administrative duties when needed.

Special Events Intern (Spring Only)
The Special Events Department coordinates The Washington Ballet’s major fundraising events, including the spring gala, opening night parties, and organizes a variety of special events for current and potential donors. Intern responsibilities include: assist with preparation for the spring gala and opening night parties, and other cultivation activities, complete special projects as designated, help prepare invitation mailings and guest lists, and assist with other administrative duties when needed.

Artistic Department Intern
The Artistic Department coordinates The Washington Ballet’s performance and programming activities, including repertoire, schedules, guest artists and choreographers, contracts, tours, and all dancer issues including classes, rehearsals and human resources. Intern responsibilities include: specially assigned artistic projects, assisting with travel and other logistics arrangements, and assisting with other administrative duties when needed.

The Washington School of Ballet Intern To provide support to the Washington School of Ballet in the following areas: Summer Intensive Program preparation; various projects designated by Director; and administrative help for the School Manager and School Assistant.
