
LAURIE METZGER is a native of Maryland. She spent the summers studying at the Washington School of Ballet under Mary Day. She also studied in Pennsylvania with Richard Hoskinson, Forrest Gehret and Marcia Dale Weary before attending Indiana University 's acclaimed ballet program. Ms. Metzger earned a Bachelor 's degree in both Ballet and English and studied with Violette Verdy, Patricia McBride and Jean-Pierre Bonnefoux. During her time at Indiana she performed classical, neo-classical and contemporary works. She then became a principal dancer with Virginia Ballet Theatre. During her years at VBT she performed in Sinatra Suite, Combat (The Duel), Con Amore, Allegro Brilliante, Serenade, Coppelia, and Cinderella. She taught at several area schools including the Virginia Ballet Theatre Academy. Ms. Metzger has served as the Summer Intensive Coordinator for the Washington School of Ballet's Summer Intensive since 2003. This year she will be performing as a guest artist with the Washington Ballet and has joined the faculty and staff of The Washington School of Ballet as a teacher.
