Hello TWB Family,

I always thought that “running with the bulls” would be the ultimate adventure. Well, this summer I didn’t exactly run with the bulls, but I did have an opportunity to experience a traditional bull fight in Pamplona, Spain during my travels to research our exciting world premiere of Hemingway: The Sun Also Rises. Although traveling is great experience it is great to be back in DC and to be surrounded by my favorite things --ballet and a passion for movement.

These past few weeks I’ve been on a crash course to prepare for Hemingway: The Sun Also Rises, experiencing the world as if I were Ernest Hemingway to create movements for his many and varied classic tales in the novel. Aside from experiencing the culture and the almost “running with the bulls” in Pamplona, Spain, I took time to re-read and gather inspiration from two other Hemingway timeless novels, A Moveable Feast and From Whom The Bell Tolls. My plans are not to only create a ballet based on The Sun Also Rises, but one that parallels Hemingway’s dynamic life.

Although the last three weeks have been quite an adventure, traveling not only to Pamplona, Spain but also Mykonos, Greece and Madrid in my quest for research, I’ve hit the ground running since returning, meeting with TWB’s artistic team and teaching some of the brightest young artists in our Summer Intensive program. While, I truly love the creative process and running the show, it is always a pleasure to work with some of the best young dancers from around the globe.

Until Next Time!!
